The Brownstone That Music Built
At 107 West 130th Street in Central Harlem sits a brownstone unlike any other. For over 120 years โ since 1904 โ the New Amsterdam Musical Association has operated from this same address. That kind of institutional permanence is extraordinarily rare for any organization, but especially for a Black cultural institution that has survived two World Wars, the Great Depression, urban renewal, and the constant pressure of gentrification.
The building is a Historic Landmark. But Historic Landmark status alone doesn't pay for a new roof, updated plumbing, or accessible entrances. The brownstone needs essential repairs and renovations to continue serving the community for the next century.
Every dollar donated goes directly toward restoring this irreplaceable piece of Harlem and American music history.
